Helen M. Woolery, 101 of Des Moines, former Mason City resident and longtime Librarian at the Des Moines Public Library died Monday, September 7, 2015 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Memorial services will be held in Des Moines and Mason City, Iowa. The service in Des Moines will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Burns United Methodist Church, 1909 Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, Des Moines, Iowa. The memorial service in Mason City will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 21, 2015 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd ST. SE, Mason City, Iowa. Officiating will be the Rev. Angela Lewis of Burns United Methodist Church, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am. Inurnment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. She attended and graduated from West Virginia Public Schools and continued her education graduating from Bluefield State Teachers College, in Bluefield WV. Her faith was always a major part of her life, which guided her with her family and church. Cooking for family and friends was a pleasure for her all through her life. Being a librarian for a great share of her working life, books were very important to her and she passed her love of books to her children and grandchildren. She brought life, through her gardening and shared with others, its bounty. She won many trophies in Golf and Bowling where she could be with friends. She was united in marriage to Wood Woolery Jr. on November 26, 1961 in Mason City and the two of them enjoyed traveling together. Later her furry friend Pierre filled her life with happiness. Those thankful in sharing Helen’s life include her daughter Holly and her husband Howard Burns of Washington DC.; son Wood and his wife Maria Woolery III, St. Joseph Michigan, grandchildren Jerome Malvin, Maryland; Nancy Malvin, Iowa; Jamiylah Cooper, Pennsylvania, Jason (Karen), and Jeremy Woolery, all of Michigan, and Victoria (Jeffrey Makries) of Texas; along with the great grandchildren Blake, Isabella, Zayden and Raiden.
