Catherine “Cathy” Jo Lessor, 67, of Mason City, IA died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. A gathering for family and friends to share memories and stories will be held 1 to 4 pm, Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the VFW post 733, 1603 Monroe Ave, S. Mason City. Per her wishes she was cremated and will later reside in several of her and Jerry’s cherished memory places. Catherine was born on March 30, 1949 in New Hampton, Iowa the daughter of Jake and Gladys Beckman. After her completion of School , She began her career as a Nurses Aid at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She then moved to Colorado for two years where she worked as a secretary for Boulder Mercy hospital. She returned back to Mason City and started working for Mercy lab and later transferred to Pathology Associates as a secretary for 18 years, retiring in 2013 due to her health. Cathy truly wished she could have opened a catering business, and became famous for her swiss steak, fried chicken and sloppy-jo’s. She enjoyed watching cooking shows to fine tune her culinary skills. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved Karaoke and sang her most favorite country songs. Each year she and her husband Jerry would travel to Alabama to Dolphin Island in January or February to celebrate Mardi Gras with Jerry’s sister. She married David Oelberg in 1964 with that marriage lasting 18 years. During that time, she gave birth to 4 children. She then united in marriage to her husband Jerry D. Lessor on November 6, 1993. She then was also blessed with his 3 children. Catherine is survived by her husband Jerry of 23 years, surviving children, daughter Dorie and her husband Richard Paulsen, Rockford, IA; sons Daniel and his wife Kate Oelberg, Shakopee, MN; and Darren Oelberg, Mason City Jeffery and his wife Nicole Lessor, Jennifer and her husband Manuel Martinez and Jeremy Lessor all of Mason City,10 grandchildren, John, Michael, Andrei, Alena, Levi, Caleb, Tyler, Jaxon, Blake and Leah, five Great Grandchildren, her sister Sharon Faught, Mason City, Richard (Pamela) Beckman, Mason City, and Steve Beckman of New Hampton, along with several nieces and nephews.
